Fresno Chili peppers are believed to have originated somewhere in Central or South America and were first cultivated in Mexico thousands of years ago.   To the ancient Mesoamerican civilizations, chili peppers were seen as sacred plants with divine qualities.  In 1952 The Fresno Chili was first cultivated commercially in the rich fertile soil of the San Joaquin Valley in California.
